A beautifully detailed antique handmade silver brooch featuring a finely detailed six pointed star overlayed on a round convex background with the center cut out of it to highlight the openwork in the center of the star. The quality of the workmanship is some of the best I have seen! It is hallmarked on the front edge in two places with marks that I am unable to identify, one being a full figured bird, the other I cannot decipher. It also appears to have a mark on the C clasp that I am unable to make out.
It measures 2" across and weighs 13 grams. It retains its original pin and "C" style clasp that are in good working condition. I believe it dates to the fourth quarter of the 19th century. |
